A recent Financial Times feature on India’s microdrama boom explores a broader shift in entertainment: attention is moving to mobile, while the economics of producing content are changing with it. Salone Sehgal, Founder & Managing Partner, Lumikai, highlighted how India’s 800Mn smartphone users, cheap mobile data, and young population have created fertile ground for a category that barely existed a year ago. As audiences move from television to instantly available mobile content, microdramas are becoming a new form of mainstream entertainment.

The article features Story TV, Lumikai’s portfolio company, which is building around this shift with its “Snackable Stories That Get You Hooked” proposition.

The Financial Times also cites Lumikai’s estimate that India’s microdrama market reached about $300Mn in 2025 and could reach $4.5Bn by 2030.
