Salone Sehgal On The End Of The Family TV With The Digital Entertainment Summit

India has just six cinema screens per million people. With so little public entertainment infrastructure, the phone has become the country's most accessible screen, and the family TV is giving way to personal ones.
At The Digital Entertainment Summit, hosted by Network18, Salone Sehgal, Founder and Managing Partner of Lumikai, joins industry leaders on a panel about how casual and mid-core gaming is shaping India's digital economy, from innovation to jobs and investment.
Salone points out that mobile already reaches 830Mn Indians, and that gaming is on track to match that scale within five years. Free-to-play gaming revenue already rivals the Indian box office, and while cinema footfalls decline, the number of gamers grew 20% year on year. She also argues that an industry only four years old should be measured against its own maturity, and that comparisons with 30-year-old markets like the US, Japan and Korea miss the point.
If you want to know where India's entertainment rupee is heading next, this panel maps the route.
